Form an SEG Student Chapter

At this time, SEG is unable to sponsor Web pages for all SEG Sections and Associated Societies.  This is a temporary issue and will be resolved ASAP.

Guidelines

A petition should be sent to the Society in the form of a letter to the SEG President stating the wish of the group to affiliate as a Student Chapter.

The names and addresses of the students wishing to organize the Chapter and the group's Faculty Advisor should be enclosed with the petition letter. A minimum of ten students is required to form a Student Chapter.

If the group has already held an election of officers, the names of those elected to serve should also be noted.

It is not a prerequisite that members of Student Chapters be members of SEG in order to obtain a charter. However, we encourage them to join if they choose.

The Constitution of the proposed Chapter should be submitted to the Executive Director at the SEG Business Office for approval by the SEG Constitution and Bylaws Committee. Any deviations from SEG's "Model" Constitution will be carefully considered by the Constitution and Bylaws Committee. The Executive Committee will vote on the proposed Chapter's petition and, if approved, issue a charter.

A suggested Student Chapter Constitution which may be used as a guideline is available from the SEG Business Office.

Once chartered, the Society will provide a complimentary subscription to Geophysics and The Leading Edge to the Student Chapter in care of the Faculty Advisor.

The SEG Student Chapter will be provided with selected special publications at no cost based upon availability and is entitled to make use of SEG's Employment Referral Service.

SEG will host a place for each Student Chapter to maintain a web site within its domain of http://seg.org.

The Chapter must already be chartered.

The Chapter must have someone capable of HTML coding.
