Job opportunity Postdoctoral Research Associate University of Southern California The Viterbi School of Engineering at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA has an anticipated opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate with background in geophysics in the Mork Family Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, Petroleum Division with a tentative starting date of June 1, 2010.
The candidate will contribute to the accomplishments of the tasks highlighted in the DOE funded project: (http://apps1.eere.energy.gov/geothermal/projects/projects.cfm/ProjectID=144)
This position will require a high level of understanding and application of micro seismic and other geophysical methods to aid in exploration problem solving. Experience with shear wave data analysis, fuzzy logic, neural networks and fractals as well as understanding of geothermal reservoirs is preferred. 
 Qualified candidates must have: - A Ph.D. in geophysics (or a related field) or equivalent doctorate in geophysics within previous three years.
- Minimum field of expertise in directly related education with advanced knowledge of equipment, procedures and analysis methods. Preferred field of expertise includes relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals.
In addition, qualified candidates must have: - Background in some of the following areas: MEQ data analysis, seismic tomography, geothermal reservoir characterization.
- Demonstrated communication skills both written and verbal.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to assist in the planning, designing and conducting of highly technical and complex projects.
- Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain sophisticated laboratory/scientific equipment.
- Ability to work and collaborate within multidisciplinary research teams.
The role may require other related duties and the supervision of doctoral students.
