Online Education

SEG has been committed to providing top quality continuous professional enrichment for over 7 decades. Now these wide varieties of offerings are accessible anytime, anywhere.  These offerings support and enhance your individual efforts to expand and reinforce your knowledge.  These include forums, Distinguished and Honorary Lectures, Distinguished Instructor Short Courses, and online courses.

Continuing Education Courses

SEG short courses are taught by industry experts and cover topics from the fundamental to the leading edge of geophysics. Courses from the curriculum are offered publicly or to private companies and organizations through the in-house training program. Public courses are listed on the upcoming courses Web page.

SEG/EAGE Distinguished Instructor Short Course (DISC)

The SEG/EAGE Distinguished Instructor Short Course (DISC) is a one-day course taught by a prominent geophysicist on a current topic of interest to a broad audience of geoscientists. The DISC tours for one calendar year and visits over 25 sites around the world. It is presented in partnership with the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers.

Distinguished Lecture Program (DL)

The Distinguished Lecture program (DL) honors outstanding individuals noted for high quality in their contributions to geophysics on an international level and who are outstanding communicators.  The Spring DL visits 20 to 30 locations internationally to present a lecture suitable for a lunch or dinner meeting of a local section, associated society, or university group.  The Fall DL is sponsored jointly with the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG); SEG and AAPG alternate years administering the program.

Honorary Lecture Program (HL)

The Honorary Lecture program (HL) is a companion program to the DL with a focus to transfer knowledge within a region of the world. Every year, there is one Honorary Lecturer for each of the following regions: Central and South America, Europe, Middle East and Africa, North America, Pacific South, and South and East Asia. Lectures may be given in English or a language appropriate to the region.

Forums and Workshops
Forums, Workshops and special sessions are offered during larger meetings or as standalone events and cover many different topics. Some are annual events; others are organized to address current issues.  For a list of upcoming presentations please visit the forums and workshops page.

At the SEG Annual Meeting, Convention Workshops are offered after the Technical Sessions close on Thursday and continue through Friday. Entry into any or all workshops is available for a fee with advance registration. Students are admitted free with their “Student” badge. Use the Advance Registration Form to register.
