Technical Program - 2010 Annual Meeting

Technical Program

With more than 1,130 abstracts received for review, this year’s Technical Program includes 116 diverse sessions. Geoscience professionals from all geophysical disciplines and all parts of the world are represented.

The Technical Program will begin on Monday at 1:30 p.m. It will include nine special sessions. Poster sessions will be held in the hallways near the Technical Program rooms through Wednesday, while 13 oral session rooms will run consecutively through Thursday at noon. Themed poster sessions highlighting challenges of today and tomorrow will take place each day through Wednesday. Immediately following, convention workshops will take place in the technical session area on Thursday afternoon and all day Friday.

Begin planning your time at the SEG International Exposition and 80th Annual Meeting now by viewing the finalized technical program schedule and associated abstracts linked below.

Microseismicity: Beyond Dots in a Box

Interest in microseismic monitoring for industrial applications has grown significantly over the last few years. However, the majority of applications of microseismic monitoring use only the event locations---the so-called ‘dots in a box‘ approach. Other information contained in the recorded microseismicity is usually ignored. . This workshop will focus on the following advanced applications, which are of significance to both the engineering and the geoscience communities:

• microearthquake source mechanisms
• seismic velocity model building including anisotropy
• errors and location inaccuracies
• microearthquake size (magnitudes)
• and constraints on reservoir modeling/simulation from microseismic events.

A special issue of Geophysics is planned to accompany the workshop.
The workshop will be held in Denver on Friday, October 22, 2010. The organizers invite submission of abstracts (maximum 4 pages) to both oral and poster presentation. The authors are asked to indicate if they are willing to submit an article for special issue of Geophysics on microseismic. The workshop will have significant blocks of time devoted to full discussions.
Abstracts should be sent to vladimir.grechka@shell.com, and/or leisner@microseismic.com, and/or zachary.lawrence@exxonmobil.com no later than 15th July 2010.
