The Society of Exploration Geophysicists is convening an IQ Earth Forum to initiate concrete discussions to create a fundamental change in visualizing and predicting subsurface structure, rock and fluid properties; driven by renewed focus on multidisciplinary integration and the new quantitative earth model paradigm. This is a bold challenge that most players in the petroleum industry realize and to various degrees are already addressing. Leading universities are also establishing multi-disciplinary educational initiatives to enable the next generation subsurface scientist.
The Forum will be a critical first step toward a successful multi-year initiative, as discussions at the forum will guide the future direction of the new SEG IQ Earth initiative. Success will add lasting value to the business of petroleum exploration and production.
Forum process:
- Committee will review applications and registration information will be sent in mid-December.
- Register and pay fee to attend the forum according to instructions to be sent to attendees.
- Enjoy the forum, contribute to this first step in the SEG IQ Earth initiative, and make some great contacts.
Schedule:
Monday, 25 January—registration and welcome dinner
Tuesday, 26 January—breakfast, all day session and lunch
Wednesday, 27 January—breakfast, morning session, lunch, excursion, and closing dinner
Thursday, 28 January—all day session and wrap up
Meeting format:
The format for the forum is especially designed to encourage a free flow of information and a number of ground rules will be enforced to help ensure this forum meets its objective:
- All participants are presenters.
- No abstracts or presentation materials allowed before, or distributed during, the forum.
- All participants stay for the entire forum.
- No recording, photography, or extensive note-taking is allowed.
- Only general results from the Forum are published (probably in The Leading Edge).
- Oral presentations will be limited to 20 minutes to allow at least 15 minutes for discussion of each talk.
- Breakout sessions for small group work may be included in the agenda.
Due dates:
Applications can be mailed, e-mailed, or faxed to Cassidy Grusi by 5 p.m. CST, Tuesday, 11 November 2009.
Acceptance:
Direct participation of all forum attendees is mandatory.
Registration:
Fees, including most meals, are US$950 for industry participants and US$300 for academic participants. This has been made possible by a generous commitment from StatoilHydro. Participation in the Forum is limited to approximately 50 people.
Housing and meeting site:
The headquarter hotel and meeting location will be The Mills House Hotel. This upscale antebellum hotel has been hosting travelers for over 150 years. The Mills House Hotel is conveniently located just 10 miles from the Charleston International Airport, and mere steps away from some of Charleston’s attractions, such as the Dock Street Theatre, King Street Antique District, The Market Place, Waterfront Park, South Carolina Aquarium, and The Battery/Historic District.
A special rate of US$139 is available to IQEarth Forum attendees. You can make hotel reservations by calling +1.800.874.9600. Be sure to ask for the SEG rate when making your reservation.
