The Leading Edge Digital Edition ''We are proud to offer to our members a digital version of The Leading Edge. This innovation provides important tools for our members and digital subscribers.'' --Ted Bakamjian SEG Director of Publications SEG is proud to introduce the first digital issue of The Leading Edge. This new version of TLE is a page-by-page reproduction of the print issue, enhanced with a variety of rich text features. Individual TLE articles have been available online for some time; however, the digital edition according to Ted Bakamjian, SEG Director of Publications, “is more like reading the printed version than any previous online implementation of the publication, with every page presented and tightly connected with the others.” The digital edition is available to SEG members along with the print edition beginning with the April 2010 issue. Digital editions of the January, February, and March issues of TLE are also available. Features of the new format allow TLE to offer readers a more robust and interactive reading experience. Readers can use the search function to find specific terms in an individual issue or across multiple issues. They also can take advantage of linked e-mail and Web addresses to connect authors and advertisers. Those wanting additional information about an article’s sources can use the linked references to locate or even download source materials. Images can be enlarged to enhance clarity, and multimedia files can be viewed from within the issue. Members also can use social and professional networking features to share and comment on articles. This new member benefit makes the most of modern technology by providing more options for viewing TLE. Individual articles or the entire issue can be downloaded for offline viewing or saved as a PDF file. This gives members the ability to create a personalized searchable digital archive of TLE on their own computers or Web-compatible devices such as Apple’s new iPad. According to Bakamjian, “the Society is seeking to meet the changing delivery preferences of readers who are adopting handheld reading and communication devices in greater numbers.” By embracing this new technology, the Society is working to accommodate the needs of our global and diverse membership. We invite you to examine this newest incarnation of TLE by visiting www.seg.org or www.segdl/tle.org and clicking on the “TLE Digital Edition” link. |
