Geologist (#66486)

Basic Function: Conduct comprehensive geologic, paleontological, hydrogeological or geocellular modeling studies and analyses, prepare reports and presents results to management; must be able to develop timely and accurate solutions to geologic problems and operations issues in one or more areas.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and complete comprehensive geologic, paleontological, hydrogeologic or geocellular modeling projects under the direction of a supervisor or team leader

  • May be required to guide and coach more junior professionals on team projects, and may be required to replace the supervisor or team leader on relief assignments

  • Frequent contact with the group work director, and other geoscientists and/or reservoir engineers from the SAO Area Exploration, Reservoir Characterization and Technical Services Departments

  • Depending on the assignment, will have occasional contact with Government Representatives, representatives from international oil companies, service company personnel, SAO R&D Center personnel, and/or company drilling engineers

  • Expected to be able to efficiently use pertinent computer software to aid in performing several of the following activities, the number and combination depending upon his/her assignment:

    • Interpret geophysical, paleontological and geological data, use geologic concepts and integrated information from variety of geologic disciplines to develop leads, locate new exploration targets and recommend drillable prospects to management

    • Interpret and integrate geological, paleontological and geophysical data to develop existing fields by recommending optimal well placement to drilling engineers

    • Integrate large amounts of geological, paleontological and geophysical data to create geological and/or integrated numerical models for calculation of reserves and reservoir simulations

    • Conduct regional studies integrating geologic and seismic interpretation tools to determine the regional geological framework and exploration potential of future trends

    • Develop, evaluate, and implement computer programs and applications for solving Exploration Organization problems

    • Assist Wellsite during the drilling of exploration and development wells

    • Document his/her work in a professional manner and make presentations to management

    • Assist the Manager in accountability and operating planning, 2D and 3D seismic data acquisition planning, etc.

  • Travel to meetings and seminars in other locations located in offices and hotels in Houston, in North America and in Saudi Arabia

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology or related sciences (e.g. Geophysics, Physics, etc.)

  • Generally a minimum of nine (9) years' experience in Petroleum Exploration or Reservoir Characterization or other discipline appropriate to the task (an advanced degree will reduce prerequisite work experience by one year)

  • Experience in exploring for and characterizing Shale and other Unconventional Resources

  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend both orally and in writing, accurately, clearly and concisely in English at the high level required to perform the job as outlined

  • Must have a thorough knowledge of geological practices including scientific and economic principles, calculation methods, design details, and codes, standards and specifications

  • Must have computer skills appropriate to his/her specialty

  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette
