Donor Research Administrator


Position Summary:

The Donor Research Administrator has a key role in the SEG Foundation by providing prospect research, processing gifts, managing donor information and providing general development support to the department.

Essential Functions:

  1. Prospect Research
    Research individuals, corporations and foundations using the SEG database donor software system, subscription databases, and public and government websites. Analyze data and synthesize results to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity, linkages to SEG, and other information to aid in the development process. Produce accurate, detailed background reports. Employ research, analysis and reporting strategies useful to the prospect development stages and in proportion to prospect/donor value.

  2. Gift Processing Management
    Process donor gifts in accordance to SEG Foundation standards ensuring accuracy and timeliness for gift data entry, processing and donor receipting. Prepare (from a menu of existing report types) timely prospect/donor and/or program reports as needed to support the development team. Proactively communicate ongoing needs with the development team, and recommend approaches to meet those needs.

  3. Prospect Database Management
    Identify, evaluate and prioritize potential donors using prospect database queries and analysis. Input, utilize and manage relevant prospect information within database. Aid in evaluating, designing, documenting, and implementing new prospect research services, deliverables, processes, and products. Evaluate search methods, sources, and database usage.

  4. Event/Project Management
    Assist in the planning, preparation and execution of development events as necessary. This may require occasional travel, evening and/or weekend hours.

  5. Other Departmental Activities
    Stay current on leading industry trends; transfer and apply expertise. Maintain and expand research expertise with continuing education about new sources, search methods, and relevant information technologies. Assist in the development of prospect/donor proposals and annual donor reports, foundation reports, or other written documents. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Development Director.

Experience Required:

A minimum of three years research experience in a research production environment required. Demonstrated experience querying data, managing electronic screenings, creating prospect management models and/or designing constituent surveys. Experience using data and knowledge in strategic decision making to improve processes and customer service and to transfer and apply knowledge to other functions within a fundraising organization. Experience developing presentations and leading training, professional meetings, or team projects.

Education, Certifications and Specialized Training:

Bachelor's degree or an Associate's degree and 4 years of comparable work experience in a closely related education/research industry such as business, financial, or library research.

Job-Specific Skills and Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with current research technologies and information search techniques, including online library sources, pay-subscription sources, public records, and Internet searches.

  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills; ability to analyze and report a wide range of research findings.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with data in a wide variety of formats, including Excel and Access.

  • Demonstrated understanding of major gifts fundraising process/strategies and the contributions and integration of data management and analysis to process/strategies.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize complex tasks with multiple deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced production environment.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information and material in an ethical and professional manner.
