Biography

Paulo Johann

Paulo Johann is currently the reservoir geophysics manager for Petrobras, based in Rio de Janeiro. Paulo has more than 27 years of experience in the petroleum industry. He graduated with a degree in geology in 1980 from UNISINOS University, Brazil. He started with Petrobras in 1981. Paulo received DEA and PhD degrees in reservoir geophysics from Paris VI University, France in 1994 and 1997. His career has encompassed geophysical acquisition, geophysical interpretation, and reservoir geophysics.  Since 1985 he has been involved with an internal Petrobras training program for new geophysicists and geologists.  Paulo also gives lectures at Brazilian universities. He was appointed improved oil recovery geophysical technology research coordinator for Petrobras in 2001. Paulo became active in the Brazilian Geophysical Society (SBGf) in 1997 where he served in many positions and was vice president from 2003 to 2005. He currently serves the Society of Exploration Geophysicists as a member of  the SEG Council, representative of Latin America Region. He has published and presented several technical papers at SEG, EAGE, SPE, OTC, and SBGf. Recently, his paper "4D Seismic in Brazil: Experiences in Reservoir Monitoring" was selected as one of the best papers at 2007 Deep Water West Africa Conference, Luanda, Angola.
