Honorary Lecturer Peter Hatherly instructing a class at Gadjah Mada University Geophysical Society in Yogyakarta, Indonesia

The Honorary Lecture Program, previously known as the Regional Lecture Program, is a companion program to the long-established SEG Distinguished Lecture Program. The goals are similar:

  • Recognize an individual's contributions to advancing the science and technology of geophysics.

  • Foster a sense of community amongst geophysicists by providing opportunities for local meetings and exchange of ideas.

  • Encourage students by providing the opportunity to discuss scientific and career issues with a leading expert.

The Honorary Lecture Program is aligned with six geographic regions. These have been defined based on considerations of the number of SEG affiliated Sections and cost efficiency.

Because of Shell's investment in the SEG Foundation, we are able to offer Honorary Lecturers to all six regions every year. Each Honorary Lecturer will visit approximately 10-20 locations in the region.

You can access the abstracts, biographies, schedules and other content for each of this year's lecturers here, or view lecturers from previous years by following the links in the right menu. Available exclusively for SEG members are lecture slides and online lectures by selected lecturers.

SEG and its lecturers help to make students interested in geophysics related sciences, to stay in the industry and science, to challenge and to win.
