Biography

Gerard SchusterAlfred Liaw is a Distinguished Geophysical Advisor and Team Lead of the Geophysical Technology Department at Anadarko Petroleum Corporation in The Woodlands, Texas. His technical expertise encompasses seismic imaging, pore-pressure analysis, seal integrity evaluation, and AVO/DHI validation. During his 35-year career with ARCO, Oryx, Kerr-McGee, and Anadarko, he has participated in a wide range of E&P projects in West Africa, East Africa, Romania, China, SE Asia, Gulf of Mexico, North Sea, Brazil, North American unconventional resources, and Alaska.

Liaw is an Active SEG member. Currently, he is serving as an SEG Director-at-Large. He served SEG as Vice President (2010-2011) and Chairman of the SEG Global Affairs Committee. He served as Chairman of the International Showcase, and as Global Theater Coordinator for the 2008 SEG Annual Meeting. He was a 2008 SEG Presidential Award recipient for outstanding services to SEG. While leading the SEG China Task Force, he facilitated the establishment of the first SEG international office in Beijing, and served on the Board of Directors of SEG Global Inc.

He has been an active member of Chinese American Petroleum Association (CAPA) since 1998. He served as the vice-president in 2002, president in 2003, member of the Board of Directors from 2002 to 2007, and chairman of the Board of Directors in 2006.

Liaw holds a BS degree in geology from National Taiwan University, an MS degree in Geology from Southern Methodist University, and a PhD in engineering geosciences from the University of California at Berkeley.
