The African Challenge Bowl 2014
As part of the activities at the 2nd African Geosciences Student Conference 2014 in Kumasi, Ghana, the African Challenge Bowl was successfully held at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology by the kind courtesy of Tullow Ghana Ltd. Eight teams from Ghana and Nigeria locked horns in the College of Science Auditorium in front of a very excited crowd on Thursday the 23rd of May, 2014.
At the end of the thrilling encounter, Anyanwu Dozie and Horsfall Nathaniel, students from the Federal University of Techology, Owerri, emerged victorious. The second place was taken by students of Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH) represented by Juskin Kehinde Olawole and Bayode James Omeiza. The two first place winners will be sponsored by Tullow Ghana Ltd. as one of the teams representing Africa in the SEG Challenge Bowl to be held at SEG Denver 2014.
At the end of a final very competitive round, there was total silence as the audience eagerly awaited the results. The final two teams had to battle it out again in an extra round since there was a tie.
In an innovative twist, contestants had to use numbered cards to indicate their readiness to answer questions since there was no buzzer system available. This added a lot of fun and excitement to the competition.
Thanks to our MC, Dr. Susan Webb, and her able assistants, Prof. Victor Mocanu, Dr. Kwame Owusu, Prof. Sow, Mr. Fela Aromolaran, Mrs. Jill Lewis, and Mr. Evans Manu.
Special thanks also goes to Tullow Ghana Ltd. for stepping up to the challenge of sponsoring the Challenge Bowl.
