The Canadian Challenge Bowl Finals competition took place this year during the CSEG/CSPG/CWLS Vision Annual Conference in Calgary on the 16th of May. Students from all over Canada participated in this event including: the University of Western Ontario, University of Alberta, University of Calgary, Memorial University, Dalhousie University, Saint Mary's University, and the University of Saskatchewan. We had the honor again to have Peter Duncan as the master of ceremony who directed the events and entertained the public and participants for one hour and 30 minutes. The event also included world class judges John Boyd, David Eaton, Rob Kendall, Larry Lines, and Brian Russell.
This year the competition ran two rounds. Teams from the University of Western Ontario and the University of Calgary advanced to the second round and held a very tight competition. The teams were given the chance to select the subject of the questions among geology, seismic, and non-seismic.
The team of Abdolnaser Yousetz Zadeh and Keneth Silva from the University of Calgary reached the podium this year and will represent Canada into the coming SEG annual convention in Vegas in November. The CSEG is the proud sponsor of these students and will cover all their expenses for this trip. Congratulations to all participant teams.
