Dr. Julian Ivanov
Julian Ivanov received an MS (1987) engineering degree in geophysics from the Higher Institute of Mining and Geology "St. Ivan Rilsky," Sofia, Bulgaria, and a PhD (2002) in geology with emphasis in geophysics from the University of Kansas. He gained experience in different branches of geophysics working for Geology & Geophysics Co., Geocom, Schlumberger, and the Kansas Geological Survey (KGS). Currently, he is an assistant research professor at the KGS. His main focus is on characterization of the near-surface materials with applications to engineering and environmental problems by using seismic geophysical methods. His research interests include geophysical inversion, refraction/tomography, multichannel analysis of surface-waves (MASW), and high-resolution seismic reflection methods. He has taught one and two-day short courses on the MASW (35) and seismic reflection (4) methods, and he has been a visiting lecturer on the refraction and the surface-wave seismic methods at the University of Kansas. He has published more than a dozen articles and one book chapter. He is a member of SEG, EEGS, and EAGS.
