Michael Schoenberger

Dr. Michael Schoenberger Is a geophysical consultant based in Houston, Texas.  During his 33-year career with Exxon, he held a number of management and technical assignments in both research and operations.  His experience includes analysis, processing, acquisition and interpretation of seismic data.  His final position at Exxon was Technical Coordinator of Subsurface Imaging at Exxon Production Research Co.  During his Exxon career, Mike devised and taught a number of in-house geophysics courses.  During the past ten years, he has taught geophysicists and non-geophysicists at locations around the world and has consulted with several oil and gas companies, including ExxonMobil, Newfield Exploration, Westport Resources, and J.M. Huber Oil and Gas. 

Mike has published papers on array design, streamer noise characteristics, wavelet processing, apparent attenuation and dispersion, and multiple noise suppression.  His paper showing that zero-phase wavelets produce the best possible resolution; and his sequence of papers, co-authored by Frank Levin and demonstrating the effect of earth filtering on the propagating wavelet, are classic papers in geophysics.  

His services to the profession of geophysics include positions as Vice President and then President of the Geophysical Society of Houston (GSH), Editor of the journal GEOPHYSICS, and President of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG).  He has been awarded Honorary Membership in both GSH and SEG.  Dr. Schoenberger holds a B. S. from Carnegie-Mellon University and an M.S. and a Ph. D. from the University of Illinois.
