International Geosciences Student Conference
Attention Student Chapter Officers: Your Opportunity to Make a Difference is NOW
Read and learn how you can host an International Geosciences Student Conference (IGSC) at your university.
The IGSC is a student-led and student-organized event. Since its inception in 2010 in Bucharest, Romania, more than 13 SEG Student Chapters have worked to host IGSCs across Europe, South and North America and Africa. Organizing an IGSC is an excellent opportunity to build leadership skills, network with peers and sponsors, and make a difference in the community.
Managing the IGSC event is not a task for the faint of heart. Organizers must establish partnerships with universities, corporations, and student volunteers to write a conference proposal, make a budget, create announcements and marketing promotion, secure sponsorships, build a website, organize registration and payments, purchase food and refreshments, invite lecturers, plan social events and assist visiting students with the visa application process. The execution of a conference hosting 200 to 400 guests can only be successful with the support of the faculty advisor, heads/deans of the department, and university administrators and students.
Take the first step and submit your proposal 15 to 18 months prior to your event!
