Geoscientists Without Borders® recognizes new and continued donors By Chris Posey Geoscientists Without Borders®, SEG’s benevolent geosciences program, welcomed a number of delegates to its GWB reception, held in the SEG Pavilion on Tuesday, 19 October, during SEG’s International Exposition and 80th Annual Meeting. The reception, emceed by Gary Servos, Vice Chairman of the SEG Foundation Board of Directors and Chairman of the SEG Foundation Development Committee, served to thank those who had donated to GWB, and to discuss the accomplishments of the program. During his opening remarks, Servos alluded to current GWB projects, eight of which have been awarded, one of which has been completed. He invited reception attendees to circulate through the poster presentations displayed on the Pavilion floor to observe for themselves the progress made by each GWB project. Servos later called former SEG president and 2009 SEG Distinguished Lecturer, Craig Beasley to the podium. Geoscientists Without Borders® was the brainchild of Beasley, and he has been instrumental in the initiation and continuance of the program over the past three years. Beasley humbly ascribed credit for the success of GWB to the SEG, its members, and the SEG Foundation. Beasley also took time to recognize the corporate and organizational sponsors of GWB, which included Schlumberger, who provided the initial US$1 million that enabled GWB to get off the ground, Santos, Global Geophysical, Geophysical Pursuits, and CGGVeritas. Representatives included: Craig Beasley, Chief Geophysicist for WesternGeco and a Schlumberger Fellow Jeff Springmeyer, President, Geophysical Pursuit, and Larry Galloway, Vice President, Geophysical Pursuit Dennis Cooke, Chief Geophysicist, Santos Richard Degner, President and Chief Executive Officer, Global Geophysical Services Dominique Robert, Executive Vice President, Global Operational Excellence, CGGVeritas At the reception, CGGVeritas announced its most recent gift to Geoscientists Without Borders®, the company’s third investment in the SEG Foundation since 2005.
