Career seekers converge at first-ever SEG Student Career Panel By Chris Posey On Monday, 18 October, career seekers in the geosciences community gathered for the inaugural Student Career Panel, held as a part of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists International Exposition and 80th Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado, USA. The event was attended by more than 60 participants. The career panel included eight members—professionals from ExxonMobil, Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, CGGVeritas, and the Colorado School of Mines—and was moderated by Doug White, Chair of the SEG Committee on University and Student Programs. The panel was tasked with discussing contemporary issues in employment within the geosciences community and was divided into the following four sectors: - Independent domestic oil sector (Anadarko)
- Academic sector (Colorado School of Mines)
- International Geophysical sector (CGGVeritas)
- International oil sector (ExxonMobil)
Each sector had the opportunity to present to audience participants. Presenters provided an overview of their sectors and explained the value of considering a career in their sectors. Career-seeking participants were then given the opportunity to respond, ask questions, and gain further information about each sector. The event may be summarized in the words of Jim Fuchs, General Manager at Anadarko Petroleum and Student Career Panel opener: "You never stop learning." Indeed, the mere presence of these 60+ attendees exemplified just that. Related Annual Meeting News: | | | |
