International Showcase and Global Theater International Showcase Reception All delegates were invited to join SEG officials, showcase exhibitors, and global theater speakers in thanking sponsors and celebrating SEG's relationships in Europe and the FSU while enjoying Russian and European foods and music, which featured a vocalist and trio playing balalaika, guitar, and accordion. The reception was opened by SEG President Steve Hill. View the International Showcase Reception invitation. International Showcase The 15th annual International Showcase "FSU/Europe: Unite in Denver" featured exhibitors and speakers from all over the petroleum producing regions of Europe and the Former Soviet Union. We encouraged SEG delegates to tour the Showcase and enjoy an internationally integrated environment, discovering what various companies, technical institutes, universities and other key players are doing to enhance geophysics and E & P in their countries. Located on the SEG Exposition Floor, the International Showcase was available to all Annual Meeting attendees. Known as "the Global Meeting Place," the Showcase provided the ideal opportunity for international organizations to introduce themselves to a network of over 8,000 geoscience peers and professionals. Global Theater A component of the International Showcase, co-sponsored by the Global Affairs Committee, was the Global Theater. The Global Theater is a unique forum offering technical and business presentations by leaders in the region to address peers on topics relevant to this year's theme, "FSU/Europe: Unite in Denver." The Global Theater was a unique opportunity for business exchange, technology transfer, networking, and friendship in this important petroleum province. Situated next to the showcase, twenty-two (22) Global Theater presentations on Tuesday and Wednesday covered specific technological challenges facing the region, including several case studies that attracted internationally-minded geophysicists, managers and executives of resource and service companies who need the special insight from the presentations focused on the FSU and Europe. Other themes include issues related to young geoscientists, multidisciplinary training, and strategies for the future. For Monday afternoon, a different type of session was planned. Instead of focusing on a region of the world, the Global Theater showcased various technologies that were originally developed in the Rocky Mountain basins surrounding Denver, Colorado and now have world-wide appeal in the search for unconventional reservoirs like tight gas sands, shale gas, and shale oil production. This session involved technologies from other disciplines besides geophysics, and involve speakers traditionally associated with SPE, AAPG, and RMAG.
