The SEG/ExxonMobil Student Education Program (SEP) was a 2.5-day program focused on preparing college graduate students for the breadth and challenges of an oil industry career through hands-on examples of multidisciplinarity subsurface integration. It also helped students develop lifelong relationships with SEG and its members, via lecturers and exercises efficiently delivered/conducted and directly related to geoscience/geophysical work performed in the oil industry. ExxonMobil provided course materials, team exercises, and instructors.


 

SEG Annual Meeting 2010 Faculty Advisor WorkshopFaculty Advisor Workshop

This half-day workshop was specifically designed for active SEG Student Chapter Faculty Advisors. A focused program, it included an address by the SEG President, a sharing of experiences on how best to enable effective Student Chapters, a discussion centered on how SEG can best serve the needs of professors and university departments, and, of course, brunch! Active Faculty Advisors representative of SEG's worldwide network of more than 200 Student Chapters were selected to attend. For more information, please contact FA@seg.org.

The Career Placement Area provided students and job seekers a place to post résumés and to visit with company representatives. Companies had individual booths for discussions about employment opportunities, internships, educational requirements and interviews for potential employment.

We explored the exciting career opportunities in the field of geophysics.

The Student Career Panel brought together senior-level managers and new hires from an international oil company, a U.S. independent oil company, a geophysical service company, and a university. Students gained knowledge about the different kinds of careers available to them upon graduation.

The Challenge Bowl competition is an international contest testing students' breadth and depth of knowledge about the field of geoscience. Winners of Regional competitions competed for the "Grand Prize." Join us next year for an exciting afternoon of competition, and to cheer on your school or favorite team!


Student Networking Event

The Student Networking Event provided students an opportunity to network with industry recruiters in a relaxed atmosphere. Students meet sponsors and visited with faculty and friends. It was an exciting evening of networking, food, drinks, and fun! Please mark your calendar, because this is one event you won't want to miss next year!
