Peter Duncan, Chairman, SEG Honors and Award Committee and past SEG president, brought his usual verve and finesse to the 2009 Honors and Awards Ceremony on Sunday, 25 October. His witty anecdotes and snappy delivery kept the mood light and the more than 500 attendees entertained.

The relaxed atmosphere did not detract from the significance of the award recipients’ achievements. Said Duncan, “The distinguished recipients of this year’s awards are role models for excellence in our profession, and the Society is proud to honor their contributions at this Annual Meeting…they deserve our praise for advancing the science of geophysics, improving the quality of geophysics education, and enhancing our ability to apply geophysics.
