"This year's Annual Meeting will give attendees...a high- quality Technical Program with more posters." -Annual Meeting General Chairman, Ken Helm |
W-9 Use of Seismic Technology in Petroleum Resources Estimation and Classification Date: Thursday, 22 September Description: Following the successful Reserves Workshop that was held at the 2010 SEG Annual meeting, a need was identified amongst all participants for a yearly event at which best practices are being shared of using geophysical technology and workflows as part of the Petroleum Resources and Classification process. Since the last workshop, further industry guidance has been published on the role of Seismic Technology in Petroleum Resources Estimation and Classification. The SPE is presently finalizing the "Guidelines for Application of the Petroleum Resources Management System (PRMS-AD)". The PRMS-AD is sponsored by the SPE, AAPG, WPC, SPEE and SEG. It contains a chapter specifically addressing seismic applications (Chapter 3). This chapter has received significant input and review from various prominent SEG-members and will hopefully be of value to geophysical practitioners, as well as to all petroleum engineers. Furthermore, references are made to the use of Seismic Technology for unconventional resource estimates (Chapter 8). The issue of the final PRMS-AD guidance document is expected in Q3 2011. Furthermore a SPE-paper has been published on "Qualifying Seismic as a "Reliable Technology" – An Example of Downdip Water Contact Location" (SPE-134237), providing input to a further discussion on the related SEC requirements for Seismic Technologies. The workshop is sponsored by the SEG Oil and Gas Reserves Committee. The participants will be presented with details on the recent guidance updates. The objective and purpose of the workshop is to discuss the implications of the above developments for the role of the geophysical community in the Petroleum Resources and Classification process. You are all invited to bring in your experiences, thoughts, questions and comments on using Seismic Technology for conventional as well as non-conventional Resource Estimation for an open and cordial exchange with your colleagues from around the globe.
