"This year's Annual Meeting will give attendees...a high- quality Technical Program with more posters." -Annual Meeting General Chairman, Ken Helm |
W-2 Basin Modeling Date: Thursday, 22 September Description: The workshop will focus on the impact of geophysical data and interpretation techniques in developing basin models for assessing risk and uncertainty in petroleum systems. Although the interpretation of potential fields data will be an underlying theme in these discussions, the integration of all data sets in developing the models will be the primary focus. The impact of different data sets, model parameters, and variations in model scale will be examined. The different techniques which various researchers employ for analyzing data, such as object-oriented gravity modeling vs. process-oriented modeling, may be discussed and debated. The roles of crustal flexure and crustal attenuation on the petroleum system will be examined as will the effects of variations in crustal composition on geothermal gradients and maturation. The variation in heat flow of different extensional models, such as pure shear versus simple shear, will be investigated in this workshop. |
