Read the review of SEG's 2011 D&P Forum in Beijing.

31 July-5 August 2011
Beijing, China

Important Dates:

6 July 2011 - Advance Registration Deadline

6 July 2011 - Hotel Reservation Deadline

13 July 2011 - Final Registration Deadline

In 2011 we turn the attention of the D&P Forum Series to underexplored technical issues in unconventional resources including, but not limited to shale gas, oil shale, heavy oil, tight gas, and coal-bed methane. Unconventional resources require novel approaches to access, develop and produce in an environmentally sensitive manner, making them high cost initiatives to pursue. The challenge for geoscientists and engineers is significant in unlocking these reservoirs in an economically viable manner especially when their heterogeneity, stress anisotropy, mineralogy, and fluid sensitivity are also incorporated into their already complex behavior. The forum will bring together experts from oil/gas industry and academic organizations to discuss the technical issues and challenges in the development and production of unconventional resources. The 5 day meeting in Beijing, China will focus on an informal discussion of the geological, geophysical and engineering challenges in the development and production of unconventional resources.

Topics included in the program are:

  • Economic value/risks associated with the exploration and production of unconventional resources
  • Geophysical, geochemical, and geomechanical properties of unconventional resources
  • Horizontal drilling, stimulated fracturing and fracturing monitoring, and other engineering aspects
  • Potential geophysical, geomechanical, and engineering technologies or tools for imaging and assessing dynamic changes in reservoirs, faults, and seal properties
  • Technology gaps and promising geophysical technologies for quantitative reservoir management, monitoring, leakage detection, and mitigation
  • Pushing the limit on geophysical data acquisition, imaging, and reservoir management
  • Case studies demonstrating use of technologies and challenges

Forum Process

  1. The committee will review applications to determine acceptance
  2. If you have been accepted you will be notified by June 2011.
  3. Once you have been accepted you will receive registration and housing information by e-mail

  • Location:  The Lakeside Hotel and the Western Lakeside Hotel are situated on the north side of the Wen Du Shui Cheng Resort. It is only 30 minutes away from the Beijing Capital International Airport.
  • Schedule:
    • Sunday, 31 July- Registration and Ice Breaker
    • Monday, 1 August- Friday, 5 August- A full day of Technical Sessions Monday through Thursday.  The workshop will conclude following the Friday morning session.
    • Wednesday, 3 August- Group Dinner
  • Acceptance: Direct participation of all Forum attendees is mandatory.  Participation may be through poster, oral presentation or discussion contributions.  Neither oral nor poster presentations is a requirement in order to be accepted for registration.  If the number of applicants exceeds the capacity of the conference facilities, then preference will be given to presenters.

Visa information invitation letter

Participants in the Development and Production Forum may generate an official invitation letter using the form below. This form will generate a letter which you can print and use in obtaining a visa.

For those whose company or organization is planning on sending more than one individual to the workshop, additional documentation may be required for scheduling an appointment with the local Chinese embassy. If additional assistance is required, fill out a separate invitation letter for each individual requesting a visa using the form below. Each invitation letter has a unique reference number. Produce one cover letter listing all individuals requesting a visa. The letter must include the following information for each individual.

  • Name
  • Passport number
  • Date and place of birth
  • Nationality as it appears on the passport
  • Reference number from the invitation letter

Fax these forms together with the cover letter printed on the group's official stationary to +1.918.497.5557.

Please note that this letter does not guarantee that you will be granted a visa, nor does it commit SEG to pay any expenses you may incur. It is the sole responsibility of the attendee to obtain the necessary paperwork for entry to China.

If you have any questions about this form or the letter it generates, please send us an e-mail.
