World growth in energy demand continues to drive strong development of technologies of surface geophysical exploration. A new era of geophysical data processing is coming, in particular, due to high density and wide azimuth of seismic data acquisition offshore, and ultra-high channel systems in operation for land data acquisition.

Advances in seismic processing technology for processing the resulting huge data volumes have been made possible by continual growth in computational capability. The complex near surface and subsurface imaging problems that we ignored before or relied on approximate solutions are now studied with more sophisticated geophysical technologies.

Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) and Society of Petroleum Geophysicists (SPG) in China co-organize this conference in Shenzhen, China to explore the new challenges and solutions to the surface geophysical exploration with the following topics:

  • Geophysical applications in complex near-surface and subsurface areas
  • Marine geophysics, Ocean Bottom Cable (OBC) data processing and imaging
  • Unconventional gas exploration, including coal bed, mudstone, and shale gas.
  • New geophysical imaging technologies: RTM, waveform tomography, etc.
  • Reservoir geophysics: fluid detection, rock physics, high resolution data analysis
  • New acquisition equipment and advances in survey design

Conference Venue

Minghua International Conference Center,
Nanshan District, Guishan Road, No. 8
Shenzhen, Guangdong, P. R. China

Conference Guidelines

All talks and posters will be presented in English. Abstracts submitted in English shall be translated into Chinese by the meeting staff. Power point presentation materials in both English and Chinese text are required. If it requires translation, speakers should submit a power point file to the meeting organizers at least 30 days before the meeting. Each speaker has 20 minutes to present, including 5 minutes for questions and answers.

Abstract Format

Abstracts should be written in both English and Chinese in Word format with a font size of 9. An abstract in English or Chinese including figures should be no more than a page. That means a speaker should submit an abstract page in English, and another abstract page in Chinese if possible. The presenter's name should be marked with an asterisk (*). If presenters require help to translate the English version of the abstract into Chinese, they should submit the English abstract online and indicate that a Chinese translation needed.

Abstract Submission

The deadline for abstract submission is 31 August 2011. Please submit abstracts by email to: mengo@ustc.edu.cn.

Workshop

Prior to the meeting, a half-a-day workshop on Land Seismic Data Processing in Complex Areas will be offered from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on 7 November 2011. A number of invited speakers shall review the challenges of land seismic data processing, and new advances in technology development. The fee for workshop registration is US$50.

Exhibition

This conference will include an exhibition during the meeting. An icebreaker shall take place from 5:30pm to 7:00pm on 7 November 2011, and the exhibition will kick off then.

Exhibition hours:

7 November 2011, Mon: 5:30pm to 7:00pm
8 November 2011, Tue: 8:00am to 6:00pm
9 November 2011, Wed: 8:00am to 6:00pm
10 November 2011, Thu: 8:00am to 3:00pm

Attendance

Registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The Steering Committee encourages attendance from those who can contribute to the meeting, either with discussions or with a presentation. Around 400 attendees are expected, with most of them from various oil fields or companies in China.
