What is the Distinguished Lecture Program?

The program entails an outstanding expert, noted for high quality contributions to geophysics on an international level, giving a scientific presentation (approximately one hour in duration) of geophysical ideas and concepts. Selection as a Distinguished Lecturer is a major honor and recognition of excellence by the SEG.

What is the purpose of the Distinguished Lecturer Program?

1.To recognize an individual's contributions in advancing the science and technology of geophysics 

2.To disseminate discipline knowledge via speaking tours of SEG Sections

3.To foster a sense of community among geoscientists by providing opportunities for local meetings and exchange of ideas

4.To encourage students by providing the opportunity to discuss scientific and career issues with a leading expert

Locate the presentation you would like to attend and contact the local SEG section for location/time and requirements, if any. To determine the contact section navigate to the itinerary of the lecturer.

Honorary Lecturer Program

What is the Honorary Lecture Program?

The Honorary Lecture Program focuses on transfer of knowledge within a region, recognizing prominent geophysicists and strengthening the services that SEG provides to an expanding global membership. The Honorary Lecture program is aligned with six geographical regions: South and East Asia, Middle East and Africa, the South Pacific, Central and South America, Europe, and North America.

The goals are similar to the long-established Distinguished Lecture Program:

SEG/EAGE Distinguished Instructor Short Course (DISC)

What is the Distinguished Instructor Short Course program?

The SEG/EAGE Distinguished Instructor Short Course (DISC) is an eight-hour, one-day short course on a topic of current and widespread interest. Sponsored by both the SEG and EAGE, it is presented at over 25 locations each year around the world.
