2013 Elections Board of Directors | Guillaume Cambois Nominee for Director-at-Large | | Biography Guillaume Cambois has been an SEG member since 1988. He graduated from Ecole Polytechnique de Paris (1987) and received a PhD in geophysics from the University of Texas at Austin (1991). He started his career with CGG. After a thorough grounding in the field, he moved to R&D and data processing, eventually reaching the position of chief technology officer and executive vice president Data Processing. He joined PGS in 2007, initially spearheading GeoStreamer technology deployment before heading the marine division in Asia-Pacific. He is currently executive vice president for Data Processing and Technology at PGS. Guillaume has been a prolific author and active organization member throughout his geophysical career. He has authored many papers, chaired numerous technical sessions, and organized several SEG postconvention workshops. He received the EAGE Best Presentation Award in 1998, Best Poster Award in 2001, an SEG Honorable Mention in 2002, and Best Presentation Award in 2009. He also received Honorable Mention for Best Paper in Geophysics in 2000. He was a member of The Leading Edge Editorial Board from 1997 to 2001 (chairman 1999–2001), and coordinated the Acquisition/Processing column from 1996 to 2001. He served on the SEG Research Committee from 1997 to 2010. He currently serves on the Distinguished Lecture Committee (since 2007, chairman 2009-2012) and on the board of SEG Global Inc. (since 2009). He was SEG Vice President with the 2007-2008 Executive Committee. Position Statement Having lived and worked in the USA, England, Canada, France, Singapore, and Norway, I have firsthand experience of the global nature of our industry and how SEG supports its members worldwide. I have been associated with the SEG global expansion, first as a member of the Distinguished Lecturer Committee when we introduced the region-based Honorary Lecturer program, then as a member of SEG Global Inc. when we opened new offices in China and the Middle East. I believe that while it is necessary for SEG to expand to better serve our global members, we must proceed cautiously and ensure the best use of our financial resources. My main priorities are:
- Scholarships and other student programs
- Continuing education, DISC, DL, and HL tours
- Fostering technical exchanges through local conferences and workshops
- Humanitarian projects with Geoscientists Without Borders
Most of these programs are supported by the SEG Foundation. I find it frustrating that the Foundation does not encourage international donations through local tax credits. There are a large number of international members who would volunteer their money in addition to their time if given the opportunity. I am honored to be nominated and I will work tirelessly on all the points above if elected. | | | | | | |
