Position Statement

I'm honored to be nominated for Director-at-large. I fully support SEG's globalization effort. With more than 32,000 members worldwide, diversity is essential for the development of our Society. The two offices already opened outside the United States have proved very helpful. So I will contribute to the creation of one in the Latin America region as well.

As a Director at Large, I'm planning to work with all local societies in my region to make sure that they are represented properly at Board meetings. But this is a two-way road, so communicating back to the local societies about what SEG is doing will be another crucial part of my duties.

I will represent a region with enormous potential. In order to fully develop it, we need to strongly promote the geosciences, with workshops, courses, lectures, and, especially, the participation of the young members. I will promote the creation of more Student Chapters at the universities in the region and hope to increase the number of SEG members in Latin America.

The Humanitarian application of our science is vital in the times we are living. Devoting all possible effort to it will be another goal.
