PETRONAS awards Knowledge Reservoir project for unconventional resources assessment.

14 November 2011—Knowledge Reservoir has been awarded a major project by Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) for the development of workflows for assessment of unconventional resources.  This project will be executed in conjunction with Cekap Technical Services.

The project results from interest at PETRONAS in the development and deployment of unconventional resource workflows and their capture in a workflow process tool (WFPT) designed to facilitate the inhouse resource assessment of unconventional plays and the associated underlying hydrocarbon assets. The project will be global in scope and covers several unconventional resource types, namely coalbed methane (CBM) and shale gas/oil.

Petris offers oil and gas companies a complete enterprise data quality solution with DataVera 9.0

14 November 2011—Petris Technology announced the release of PetrisWINDS DataVera 9.0, Petris's enterprise data quality solution. In addition to performance improvement with as much as 5–10 times increase in speed, more complete ETL functionality, and improved usability with an enhanced Merge module, DataVera 9.0 includes many new capabilities.

With the new Master Record, DataVera now allows a multisource merge of the best values from various data stores into a single complete data source. Geographic mapping support has been added, allowing users to view their detailed HealthCheck results in Esri ArcGIS and Google Earth mapping service. Petris has also extended the flexibility of DataVera by adding support in the new version for Quick Starts and file based data sources. Users will now be able to import data for Peloton's SiteView and WellView, PODS, PetrisWINDS Enterprise, and P2 Energy Solution's Wellcore data sources and gain access to preconfigured models and rules verified by Petris.

Z-Terra expands executive team to include chief scientist

14 November 2011—Z-Terra Inc., a provider of depth imaging software and services for oil and gas exploration, has appointed Nicolay Tanushev to be the company's new chief scientist.  Tanushev comes to Z-Terra with extensive research experience from the California Institute of Technology's Department of Physics, Lawrence Livermore National Labs Chemistry and Materials Science Department, the University of California Los Angeles Department of Mathematics and, most recently, the University of Texas at Austin Department of Mathematics, where he was a postdoctoral fellow and lecturer.

As chief scientist, Tanushev will provide senior technical expertise and guidance to Z-Terra clients and will direct Z-Terra's technology team.  He will also set the direction for continuing Z-Terra's technological advances.

Spectrum announces New 2D multiclient seismic survey offshore Brazil.

11 November 2011—Spectrum is set to commence acquisition of a new 2D multiclient seismic survey in early November 2011 which covers several areas in the northern equatorial margin offshore Brazil. The survey area includes sector blocks expected to be announced in the 11th license round in the second quarter of 2012. The acquisition will focus on the Barreirinhas and Ceara basin with additional regional tie lines. Phase 1 of this program is 12,000 km.

The seismic data will be acquired by Dolphin Geophysical's Polar Explorer. The data will be processed at Spectrum's processing center in Houston, with the final products scheduled for delivery during early and mid 2012, to coincide with the anticipated Licensing Round 11 opening.

EMGS announces multiclient basalt mapping survey in Norwegian Sea

16 November 2011—In late 2011, Electromagnetic Geoservices ASA (EMGS) will perform a multiclient 3D magnetotelluric (MT) survey covering approximately 3000 km2 in the Møre basin, Norwegian Sea. The project is prefunded by a major international oil and gas company.

EMGS will rig EM Express (formerly the OHM Express) to undertake this work on a one-month charter.

Processed data will be available in early 2012 and 3D inverted data will be available in mid 2012.

GNS software release

16 November 2011—GNS Science released V5.6 of their GLOBE Claritas Seismic Data Processing Suite.

Version 5.6 has more than 100 minor and major improvements including a simplified licensing scheme and workflow enhancements for the CVA velocity analysis tool.

Licensing improvements now allow GLOBE Claritas to be offered as scalable packages suitable for both large and small businesses, as well as allowing GNS Science to cooperate with third party developers more easily.

Other new features include a module that automatically checks the integrity of complex 3D land geometry configurations, as well as a second module for developing surface related multiple models that can run in parallel. Clients also get access to a dedicated discussion forum, where they can pose questions to the user community as well as GNS Science experts.
