Petrosys 16.9 adds Paradigm, improves SeisWare and Petrel Conccentivity

20 March 2011—Paradigm released Petrosys 16.9 for production use. The EPOS link allows direct mapping, gridding, and important of EPOS data in Petrosys running on 64-bit Linux platforms, and was built to meet the immediate needs of clients in the USA, Malaysia, and Austrailia.

Other extensions to Petrosys direct connectivity in 16.9 include direct access to seismic interpretation form SeisWare for gridding in Petrosys, as well as direct display of SeisWare 3D bin grids.

Petrel connectivity has been upgraded to Petrel 2010.2, with significant speed improvements on reading of seismic interpretation for use in Petrosys.

TGS expands multiclient 3D seismic library offshore Indonesia

21 March 2011—TGS announced a second multiclient 3D seismic survey in the Tarakan Basin, offshore Northern Indonesia.  The survey, TBB11, will add over 1,820 km2 of new 3D data to the previous survey announced in December 2010. The TBB11 survey will increase coverage in this area to nearly 3,500 km2.  The data is being acquired by the M/V Seisquest, with acquisition expected to complete in mid 2011.

he TBB11 survey will be acquired over the southern part of the offshore Tarakan sub-basin, in an underexplored and poor data region. The area forms part of the extensive Tertiary-age play fairway covered by the earlier TBN10 multiclient 3D seismic survey to the north. The new data will assist in improving the understanding of the complex structural and stratigraphic setting of this important oil and gas province and particularly in prospect delineation and well planning.

The TBB11 multiclient 3D survey is supported by industry funding and also supports the Indonesia government's overall objective to attract exploration and raise production levels.

New Schlumberger quartz gauges deliver reliable high-resolution HPHT measurements

22 March 2011—Schlumberger announced the introduction of Signature quartz gauges for well testing operations. The new gauges operate reliably in rugged downhole conditions to obtain high-quality pressure measurements throughout a test, even in high-pressure high-temperature (HPHT) conditions up to 30,000 psi and 410° F.

New-generation ceramic-based electronics were designed by Schlumberger metrology experts specifically for pressure measurement, with data acquisition and processing combined into a purpose-built circuit. This integrated design optimizes power consumption and allows less physical connections for enhanced reliability.

The gauges have been field tested in India, Saudi Arabia, Norway, and the United Kingdom under a variety of reservoir conditions.

In a HPHT offshore well, the 410° F temperature rating of the Signature gauges allowed the operator to position them at a depth of 5,108 m, which was 1,750 m closer to the reservoir than conventional gauges. The well test lasted 15 days and met the operator's test objective of confirming the reservoirs commercial viability.

Low-cost tool delivers reports for wells, pressures, and land, pipeline and facility data for reconnaissance, planning and troubleshooting

22 March 2011—IHS, in conjunction with Labrador Technologies, a Calgary-based software provider, has released its newest version of eTriever, a Web-based application that enables users mobile access to the most current IHS Canadian exploration and production (E&P) data and a host of critical reporting capabilities.

Those reports include hydrogen sulfide analysis, mud density, drilling incidents, surface casing and pressure reporting, along with other well and production, land pipeline and facility data exports. Using these reports, companies can evaluate surrounding wells and plan their drilling program accordingly. In addition, eTriever has a direct export to IHS PETRA, which enables a complete analysis solution for customers working or exploring the Canadian basins.
