Business News for the week of 10 May 2012 News section front OTC announces partnership with IBP for OTC Brasil 2013 1 May 2012—The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) Board of Directors announced a partnership with IBP—Instituto Brasileiro de Petróleo, Gás e Biocombustíveis (the Brazilian Petroleum, Gas, and Biofuels Institute, IBP) for OTC Brasil, 8–10 October 2013 in Rio de Janeiro. The technical program for OTC Brasil will focus on deep-water developments, a key initiative of the Brazilian government, since the big presalt discoveries in 2007.
Dolphin appoints Nick Riddalls as onshore processing manager 1 May 2012—Nick Riddalls has been appointed as onshore processing manager by Dolphin Geophysical. Riddalls brings over 20 years of marine seismic data processing experience to Dolphin Geophysical including 10 years of onboard processing for both 2D and 3D seismic surveys. As well as 2D and 3D, his onshore experience also includes 4D and prestack depth-migration projects. During his time spent both offshore and onshore, Riddalls has been closely involved in fast-track processing projects.
Paradigm adopts advanced NVIDIA maximus technology 7 May 2012—Paradigm has released the second update releaseof its Paradigm 2011 application suite provides accelerated computation of seismic trace attributes through use of NVIDIA Maximus technology. This implementation enables seismic interpreters to calculate seismic trace attributes at their desktop in interactive or dramatically reduced times.
Glossary of Geology now available as an e-book for Kindle and Nook 8 May 2012—The revised 5th edition of the Glossary of Geology, published by the American Geosciences Institute, is now available as an e-book for the Kindle and the Nook. The e-book version provides users with the full layout and text of the Glossary for half the price and none of the pounds of the print edition. It contains nearly 40,000 entries, including 3600 new terms and approximately 13,000 entries with revised definitions from the previous edition. The revisions encompass advances in scientific thought and changes in usage, and underscore the importance of this volume for any Earth science professional or student. In addition to definitions, many entries include background information and aids to syllabication. The Glossary draws its authority from the expertise of the more than 100 geoscientists in many specialties who reviewed definitions and added new terms. |
