Roy, Jr. Award for Excellence in K-8 Earth Science Teaching 12 February 2013—Nathan Shotwell, a teacher at Holman Middle School in Glen Allen, Virginia, has been named the 2013 recipient of the Edward C. Roy, Jr. Award for Excellence in K-8 Earth Science Teaching. Shotwell will be presented with the award at the NESTA Friends of Earth Science Reception during the National Science Teachers Association 2013 National Conference in San Antonio, Texas, in April. Finalists for the award were Laura Finney of Chamberlin Hill Intermediate School in Findlay, Ohio, and John Russell of Columbia Secondary School for Math, Science, and Engineering in New York, New York. Given annually, AGI's Edward C. Roy, Jr. Award recognizes one classroom teacher from kindergarten to eighth grade for leadership and innovation in Earth science education. This award is named in honor of Edward C. Roy, Jr., who was a strong and dedicated supporter of Earth science education. Wireless Seismic announces purchase of RT System 2 by Dawson Geophysical 12 February 2013—Wireless Seismic announced the purchase of its RT System 2 seismic data acquisition system by Dawson Geophysical Company, a provider of onshore seismic data acquisition services in North America. New heads of agreements and contemplated private placement 13 February 2013—Dolphin Group ASA has entered into two new heads of agreements with GC Rieber Shipping for two high-end 3D seismic vessels. At the same time, Dolphin announced that it intends to redeliver Artemis Arctic following the expiration of the fixed contract term. The first vessel, Geo Atlantic, is an existing 3D seismic vessel built in 2002, which will be upgraded by the owner to a 14-streamer seismic vessel at a yard in Singapore. The vessel is expected to be delivered to Dolphin in late 2013. The agreement has a fixed contract term of three years and six months, with additional options for two plus two years extensions. The second vessel, newbuild, is a top-end 22-streamer 3D seismic vessel with highest ice-class, to be constructed at Kleven yard in Norway with expected delivery to Dolphin in March 2015. The vessel is based on an upgraded version of the proven design used for Polar Duke and Polar Duchess. The agreement has a fixed contract term of five years, with additional options for two by three years extensions. As part of the two new charter agreements, Dolphin has extended the firm contract term for Polar Duchess with two years to give a total initial firm period of five years. |
