Talisman Energy Inc. and Tullow Oil Join SEAM Phase II – Land Seismic Challenges

Tulsa, Oklahoma: June 27, 2012 — The SEG Advanced Modeling (SEAM) Corporation has announced Talisman Energy Inc. and Tullow Oil as new participants to the SEAM Phase II – Land Seismic Challenges project. This research project is an industry led consortium addressing critical land seismic challenges through advanced 3D elastic modeling. Through three separate models, the project addresses high channel count acquisition, near surface issues, and fractured reservoir detection. Talisman Energy Inc. and Tullow Oil join twenty other industry leading companies participating in the three year project.

"Becoming a member of SEAM fits within our strategy of accessing relevant leading edge geophysical research through collaboration. This industry-lead consortium is studying the geophysical response to realistic geological subsurface models on a scale and with a degree of realistic complexity which we, like many other participants could not construct independently. The subsurface challenges SEAM seeks to address are readily identifiable across our portfolio, so ultimately, the lessons from the simulations resulting from the response of these models will be leveraged across our business." states John Doherty, Principal Geophysicist with Tullow Oil.

SEAM Phase II commenced in early 2011. Participating companies commit to provide both funding and technical expertise over the project's three year duration. Project focus was determined after discussions with industry. The resultant models and simulated geophysical datasets will be most relevant to seismic data acquisition, processing, imaging and inversion challenges in desert regions, in unconventional shale plays and in foothills exploration.

"SEG SEAM Corp. welcomes Tullow Oil and Talisman Energy to the Phase II project.  Although this phase is well underway, the addition of these two companies to the current 20 member team will help immensely in the modeling and data processing challenges posed. This is the strength of SEAM; bringing together a diverse group of companies to address common challenges. We look forward to their participation and welcome any other companies to consider joining this important project." says Walt Lynn, Chairman, SEAM Board of Directors.

About SEAM
The SEG Advanced Modeling Corporation mission is to advance the science and technology of applied geophysics though cooperative industry efforts focused on subsurface model construction and generation of geophysical data sets for geophysical problems of importance to the resource-extraction industry. SEAM provides opportunities for companies to share the high cost of model design and data simulation, provides a forum for industry leaders to discuss geophysical problems of common interest, advances the art of modeling and computation by stimulating research and development and provides data sets for industry benchmarks and educational purposes. The SEAM Corporation was formed in 2007 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the SEG. For more information about the SEAM Corporation and the SEAM Phase I project see the SEG Web site.
