First SEAM Workshop to be held May 2013
Tulsa, Oklahoma: 13 March 2013 – The SEG Advanced Modeling (SEAM) Corporation has announced plans to host the 2013 SEAM Workshop: Geoscience Advancements with SEAM Data from 21-24 May 2013 in San Antonio, Texas. The workshop was designed to inform the geophysical community about the model, data sets, and current geoscience advancements. Abstracts for presentations will be solicited by invitation to companies and universities who have had access to the models and data sets.
SEAM has developed 3D models and numerical data sets aimed at advancing the art of geophysics with emphasis on deepwater regions in SEAM Phase I. The early commitment of matched government funding through the Research Partnership to Secure Energy for America (RPSEA) allowed for a much more extended collection of data sets. In SEAM Phase II, 22 companies are currently working on developing new land 3D models and data sets.
"SEAM projects are intended to advance geophysical innovation and there's no better way to do this than to address the present challenges head-on through the collaboration that SEAM promotes," states William L. Abriel, Past Chair, SEAM Board of Directors.
The motivation of the workshop is to get the data used and to see the advancements proven on the numeric data and forged into practice. The SEAM Phase I data will be available to the public to order in summer 2013.

About SEAM
The SEG Advanced Modeling Corporation mission is to advance the science and technology of applied geophysics though cooperative industry efforts focused on subsurface model construction and generation of geophysical data sets for geophysical problems of importance to the resource-extraction industry. SEAM provides opportunities for companies to share the high cost of model design and data simulation, provides a forum for industry leaders to discuss geophysical problems of common interest, advances the art of modeling and computation by stimulating research and development and provides data sets for industry benchmarks and educational purposes. The SEAM Corporation was formed in 2007 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the SEG. For more information about the SEAM Corporation and the SEAM Phase I project see the SEG Web site.
