| Frontiers of Geophysics Technology
Four past, current, and future SEG presidents participated in a panel discussion of the "Frontiers of Geophysics Technology" on Tuesday 5 August during a webcast hosted by PennWell Corp., publisher of Oil & Gas Journal. The panelists were Fred Aminzadeh, 2007-2008 president; Larry Lines, 2007-2008 president-elect; Leon Thomsen, 2006-2007 president; and Mike Bahorich, 2002-2003 president. The SEG Distinguished Lecture Committee is soliciting Distinguished Lecturer nominations for fall 2009. The Distinguished Lecturer program presents outstanding individuals noted for the high quality and importance of their contributions to geophysics on an international level and who are excellent communicators. Advances in seismic inversion and imaging
SEG invites papers for publication on the topic of Advances in seismic inversion and imaging" in an upcoming special section or issue of GEOPHYSICS. For this comprehensive survey of the topic, GEOPHYSICS invites summaries describing the theory, application, and benefits of advanced imaging/inversion schemes. Appropriate topics include migration techniques, velocity-model-independent approaches, traveltime and full-waveform tomography using body and surface waves, and other relevant and related approaches. Deadline for submissions is 31 December 2008.

Nevada Test Site field trip deadline approaching
On Friday, 14 November, SEG is offering a field trip to the Nevada Test Site. Field trip attendees will learn about the history of atmospheric and underground nuclear testing, visit the test locations, and learn about current programs. A detailed description of the tour is available online. The cost is US$70, and registration deadline is 29 August 2008.
Volunteer at the Annual Meeting
Volunteer opportunities abound at the Annual Meeting in Las Vegas. Volunteers are needed for a variety of events, including the Technical  Program, International Showcase, and Applied Science Education Program. If you are going to be at the convention and would like to give some of your time to a worthy effort, please sign up here.
Post-convention workshops
Thirteen post-convention workshops on various topics are scheduled to take place 13-14 November at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. The workshop schedule, descriptions, and pre-registration are available online. Pre-register for these workshops using the Annual Meeting advance registration form.

Annual Meeting golf tournament
The 2008 pre-convention golf tournament will take place Saturday, 8 November at Primm Valley Golf Club. The cost is US$200 per golfer until 30 September. After 30 September, registration cannot be made online and the cost goes up to US$225 per golfer. With such a great location, this tournament is sure to sell out quickly.
