Governance reform:
Where do we go from here?

The proposal to bring reform of the SEG's governance structure to a vote of Active Members was narrowly defeated in the Council meeting during the SEG International Exposition and 80th Annual Meeting. The magnitude of the proposed changes has resulted in some misunderstanding of the overall purpose of the initiative. In addition, many members are undoubtedly interested in the forward-moving plan.

Change in SEG Student Benefits

A letter from former SEG President, Steve Hill
Beginning 1 January 2011, all student members will receive digital copies of The Leading Edge journal. Print copies will no longer be shipped for free to student members. All other student membership benefits will remain the same, and student membership will continue to remain free.

DL nominations solicited
The SEG Distinguished Lecture Committee is soliciting Distinguished Lecturer (DL) nominations for Fall 2011. Please complete the DL nomination form and submit it via e-mail by 28 December 2010.

Andrey Bakulin begins Distinguished Lecture tour
Distinguished Lecturer Andrey Bakulin brings his lecture "Virtual source method for imaging and monitoring below complex overburden" to King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals Student Section in Dhahran on 21 December and Dhahran Geoscience Society on 10 January. SEG/ExxonMobil SEP launches new locations-apply now!
The SEG/ExxonMobil Student Education Program (SEP) offers travel grants to graduate students who are pursuing a degree in the geosciences. Applications are available online. Application deadlines for this program are:

• 15  February 2010 - Europe

SLS Travel Grants
SEG Student Chapter officers are invited to apply for travel grants to participate in the 2011 SEG/Chevron Student Leadership Symposium (SLS), which will be held at the 2011 SEG Annual Meeting in San Antonio, USA. The deadline for applications is 1 April 2011. Applications are available online.

Online Construction

From 13 January - 20 January, 2011, SEG will be working on a project designed to improve the online experience of members and non-members. The SEG website will remain online during this time; however, users will not be able to conduct transactions through the e-commerce portions of the website. We apologize for any inconvenience, and we look forward to presenting exciting new website improvements to our users in January.

The Leading Edge
The December TLE contains a special section with seven articles on tight gas sands. This issue also contains the 2010 TLE index as wells as Ken Mahrer's "Bright Spots" column.

The January issue examines reservoir characterization.

This Spring TLE launched a digital edition. All of the 2010 TLE's, including December, are currently available in the digital edition. Visit the SEG website to view a set of frequently asked questions (FAQs) for this cover-to-cover digital version of the print issue.

Geophysics
The November-December issue of Geophysics features a supplement on Seismic Data Sampling and Wavefield Representation.

Best Paper in Geophysics
SEG Editor Vladimir Grechka encourages members to nominate papers for the Best Paper in Geophysics award. Nominations should be sent to sdanker@seg.org by 1 March 2011.

All books in the SEG eBooks collection (segdl.org/ebooks) are available for credit-card purchases of individual chapters or whole books. In most cases, books are available at list prices.
