Geophysics announces new section

SEG Editor Tamas Nemeth has added to Geophysics a new section on interdisciplinary studies.

Geophysics accepts submissions on a broad range of topics, but both the peer-review and publication of manuscripts tend to focus on specific geophysical disciplines rather than paper topics. Given the ever-increasing synergies between geophysical disciplines for the purposes of multiphysics measurements, reservoir characterization, and prospect evaluation, editors identified an important need for Geophysics to reflect this and incorporate a journal section for interdisciplinary topics covering a broad field of study.

With this proposed new section, original works that span individual exploration geophysics disciplines such as seismic, electromagnetics, or rock properties, should find increased readership and improved peer-reviewed processes because associate editors can be more focused on soliciting reviewers based on the topic rather than on discipline.

Associate Editor Michael Tompkins expects to draw high-quality, timely works that incorporate multiple measurement techniques, elucidate theory or algorithms for multiphysics problems, or present methods and interpretations that are general to several disciplines of geophysics.

As a section of Geophysics, Interdisciplinary Studies will cater to the applied-geophysics research community. Scientists from other fields who have important results or advances that will have a bearing on research in the broader field of the applied geophysical sciences also are encouraged to publish in this section.
