I got a note from Les Denham on the subject of landslides. (Can you have an underwater landslide? A snow slide is called an avalanche. There ought to be some distinctive nomenclature for a landslide underwater, maybe ocean slide!) Les reminded me of the huge Alaskan earthquake and resultant tsunami. The huge earthquake (8.6?) triggered a massive landslide into Litula Bay. It was the landslide that caused the tsunami (he says). I know that one whole neighborhood in Anchorage sank quite a distance. It was sitting on a thixotropic layer. It clearly qualifies as a landslide.
