2013 NSGS Election Esther Babcock Candidate for NSGS Secretary | Biography Esther Babcock received her Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics from the United States Air Force Academy in 2002. While at the Academy, she focused on theoretical mathematics and also received a minor in French. Esther is currently pursuing her PhD at Boise State University. Her research is focused on thin-bed problems in subsurface exploration using ground penetrating radar, including inversion for thin-layer properties and the use of GPR to quantify non-aqueous phase liquid contaminants. She is concurrently conducting research into the connection between science and public policy, a topic which is especially important for federal resource management in the United States. Esther was a 2012 ExxonMobil Geosciences Grant recipient as well as a 2012 and 2013 SEG Scholarship recipient. Position Statement I am excited to run for the secretary position of the SEG Near-Surface section, as I feel that participation in professional organizations is an essential part of our roles as scientists and researchers. Through my position as secretary, I will impact the NSGS positively by recording accurate meeting minutes, pursuing new memberships, and soliciting sponsors who are enthusiastic about supporting our organization. I will also enthusiastically volunteer my time and effort for any other tasks that arise within the NSGS. | | | | | | |
