AGU-SEG Session at AGU Fall Meeting

Geology, Geophysics and Flow Modeling of
Hydrothermal Alteration in Geothermal and Volcanic systems

Near Surface Geophysics at SEG

Session Title: NS004 - Advances in Exploration Geophysics
Date: 3-7 December 2013
Location: Moscone Center, San Francisco, CA, USA
Organizers: L. Pellerin, Green Geophysics, Berkeley, CA and D. McPhee, US Geological Survey, Menlo Park, CA

Event details

Subsurface rock-fluid interactions and the corresponding rock alteration play an important role in volcano hydrothermal systems and geothermal energy exploration and production.

This session focuses on bringing together the knowledge on rock alteration in geothermal fields and that of active volcanoes.

Moreover, the session will cross-bridge disciplines that study and monitor rock-fluid hydrothermal reactions. We welcome the submission of abstracts on hydrothermal geochemical experiments and numerical modeling; petrology analysis; experimental, modeling and field geophysical data to image/monitor rock alteration and fluid flow modeling that incorporates geochemical rock-fluid interactions.

Special interest includes the effect of alteration on rock microstructure and permeability, and reactivity with water vapor, carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide.
