SEG Challenge Bowl Regional Preliminaries

The first regional preliminary was held at the University of Oklahoma in conjunction with the AAPG/SEG Student Expo. Eight teams competed (University of Oklahoma, University of Texas at Dallas, University of Tulsa, University of Houston). The winners were Dileep Tiwary and Prerna Singh, both from the University of Oklahoma. The expenses for this competition were covered by Shell. Hess and Schlumberger also helped with the costs of the event.

The second regional preliminary, the Gulf Coast Preliminary, was held in Houston in conjunction with Sercel's 3rd Land Forum. Five teams participated (University of Houston, Rice University, and University of Texas) in the competition. The winners were Scott Falconer and Charles Puryear of the University of Houston. Sercel sponsored the venue. The Geophysical Society of Houston sponsored the winners.

The third regional preliminary was held in conjunction with the 2007 CSPG/CSEG Convention in Calgary. The event attracted eight teams from the east to the west coast of Canada (Memorial Unversity of Newfoundland, McGill University of Montreal, Queen's University of Ontario, University of Saskatchewan, University of Alberta, and the University of British Columbia). The winners were Tiffany Piercey and Matthew MacInnis of Memorial University. The Canadian Society of Exploration Geophysicists sponsored the winners and the event.

The fourth regional preliminary, which was the First Middle-East SEG Challenge Bowl was held in the Carlton Hotel in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia. Five two-student teams participated from King Fahd University for Petroleum and Minerals. The winners were Jihad Al-Hussain and Ademola Adetunji. The Dhahran Geophysical Society sponsored the venue.

All winners will receive an all expense paid trip to the International Exposition and the 77th Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas to defend their titles at the Second Annual SEG Challenge Bowl Finals.
