Geophysics call for papers:
Rainbow in the Earth
SEG invites papers on the topic of “Rainbow in the Earth” for publication in an upcoming special section of Geophysics.
Accurate subsurface Earth interpretation and reservoir characterization involve building models that best fit data across several scales, such as rock-sample measurements (500 kHz–2 MHz), sonic logs (2 kHz–20 kHz), and seismic (2 Hz–100 Hz). The models, however, can vary depending on the type and scale of the data. Therefore, we would like to find a link that connects different observations and hence the models. We also need to address the fact that in the heterogeneous medium, fluctuations are in space, and in data such as seismic, the heterogeneity is in time.
One of the goals of this special issue of Geophysics is to bring forth the approaches (mathematical and empirical) that help us establish the links discussed above. In addition, we would like to cover research related to understanding the basic physics and mechanisms responsible for scaling through physical measurements of the Earth’s properties at various scales.
Special section editors Evgeni Chesnokov (University of Oklahoma, USA), Sandhya Devi (Shell International E&P, Houston, USA), and Mark Chapman (BGS, Edinburgh, U.K.) invite papers discussing scale-frequency phenomena through physical measurements, data acquisition/analysis, or theoretical approaches. These contributions undoubtedly will help us to better understand the subsurface earth structure at all scales.
Interested authors should submit their manuscripts no later than 1 April 2008. In addition, the special section editors would like to receive a provisional title and list of authors as soon as possible. Authors should submit via the normal online submission system for Geophysics and indicate that it is a contribution for the “Rainbow in the Earth” special section. The submitted papers will undergo the regular peer review process, and the contributing authors are also expected to participate as reviewers.
Given the tight timeline for publication of this issue (six months from submission to the final acceptance), Geophysics is going to strictly enforce author submission guidelines, covered in Instructions to Authors. Please note that normal Geophysics page and color charges apply.
For specific questions, please contact the special section editors, please contact Evgeni Chesnokov, Sandhya Devi, or Mark Chapman.
