Please note that the Technical Program Online will open on 3 December 2008. All submissions must be received by 5 p.m. (U.S. central standard time), 14 January 2009. CPS/SEG Beijing 2009 abstract kit (PDF) - Updated 1 December 2008 29 August 2008—Authors are invited to prepare abstracts for submission to the CPS/SEG Beijing 2009 International Geophysical Conference & Exposition. The conference, which is cosponsored by the Chinese Petroleum Society (CPS) and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), and coordinated by the Society of Petroleum Geophysicists (SPG), will be held 24–27 April 2009 at Beijing International Convention Center (BICC) in Beijing, China. The theme of CPS/SEG Beijing 2009 is “Geophysics: Challenges and Opportunities.” Attendees will be able to explore international business opportunities, network with the industry's most qualified professionals, and gain exposure to the latest technological advances in exploration geophysics, including new products and services. CPS/SEG Beijing 2009 Technical Program topics • Oil and gas exploration and development • Seismic acquisition • Seismic processing • Seismic modeling, imaging, and inversion • Seismic interpretation • Electrical and electromagnetic methods • Potential field methods • Borehole geophysics • Rock physics • Reservoir geophysics and reservoir monitoring • Environmental and engineering geophysics • Mining geophysics • Geochemistry • Gas hydrates • Risk analysis in E&P • Geophysical instrumentation and equipment The above list of topics is not meant to be limiting. Contributions in other topics related to exploration, such as multidisciplinary case histories applying principles of geology and geophysics, innovative applications of geophysical methods in new frontiers are all encouraged. Submitting abstracts Beginning in December, submissions will be accepted at SEG Online. An abstract kit and more information will soon be available on a Web page. To send submissions early or to ask questions, please e-mail meetings@seg.org. The format will generally follow the SEG Annual Meeting abstract format. Titles should be short (maximum of 120 characters) and relevant. A summary of the expanded abstract (maximum 200 words) must be submitted; as this will also be used to introduce the abstract on the CD should the abstract be accepted. Expanded abstracts must be original and must not have appeared in any other publication. All expanded abstracts must be in English. A good expanded abstract consists of a summary, an introduction, a description of theory or method broken down as appropriate, supporting figures, conclusions, optional acknowledgements, and references. It should reflect work that is actually completed at the time of submission and not plans or ideas that are still taking shape in the mind of the author or research that is still highly immature. The expanded abstract must focus on the essential information of the presentation: purpose, methods, results, and conclusions. It should be an abbreviated, informative, accurate representation of the presentation and not a mere recital of the subjects to be covered. The expanded abstracts should be submitted as PDF files of no more than four A4 pages containing no more than eight figures. The expanded abstracts submitted also should follow SEG guidelines for the SEG Expanded Abstracts. An expanded abstract that is not well written or does not adhere to these guidelines will be rejected. If you choose to submit an abstract early via e-mail, please include the following information: family name, given name, employer, address, tel/fax number and e-mail address. Please note that the expanded abstract is published on the conference proceedings CD as submitted. This is an official ”Beijing 2009” publication and poorly written expanded abstracts not only reflect poorly on the authors, but also on the sponsoring organizations. Many more people read the CD than those attending the presentation. For these reasons, the technical program organizers will only consider properly written and informative abstracts that meet these guidelines. Each abstract will be reviewed by at least two referees prior to final ranking and selection by the Technical Program Committee. Remember, this is preliminary information only, and is intended to help authors prepare abstracts ahead of the online submissions date. More specific information will be provided in the abstract kit and on the Web page, which will be announced in a future issue of the SEG Extra e-mail newsletter. For questions regarding the technical program and abstracts, please e-mail meetings@seg.org. —Beijing 2009 Technical Program Co-Chair Dr. Yonghe Sun |
