SEG Council, Active Members approve
membership category changes
27 February 2009—Know a precollege student interested in the geosciences? SEG now offers a Junior Membership category designed to encourage precollege students to consider the geosciences as a college major and career option. To be eligible for this membership category, applicants must be recommended by a teacher, mentor, or professional geoscientist and must show interest in the geosciences by enrollment in an advanced course related to Earth science; by volunteering at a museum, educational institution, or other appropriate organization; or by instructing others about the geosciences (such as at a camp, Boy Scout or Girl Scout program).
The SEG Council at the 2008 Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, USA, and later a vote of Active Members also approved dissolving the Global Membership category and integrating it into the Associate Membership category. SEG members who are citizens of and currently reside in SEG Global countries, and who have had their dues paid by the Global Membership Sponsorship program, have been automatically reclassified as Associate Members and will be billed at the lowest rate in the tiered dues structure. These are exciting times for the Society, removing the distinction between virtually identical types of membership is another step toward becoming a truly global organization of exploration geophysicists. We look forward to your continued membership and support of SEG.
