New SEG titles available at Annual Meeting SEG is adding five new titles to its catalog this fall, three of which can be purchased at the Annual Meeting Book Mart in Denver. New titles available at the Annual Meeting Methods and Applications in Reservoir Geophysics, the much-anticipated sequel to Reservoir Geophysics, will be available in Denver for the member price of $119. David Johnston and his editorial team selected 13 original contributions and more than 40 papers from SEG and other journals to demonstrate the value of geophysics in reservoir management and show how to apply geophysical technologies more effectively in reservoir studies. Heavy Oils: Reservoir Characterization and Production Monitoring presents an integrated and general description of the development and production of heavy-oil fields throughout the world. Editors Satinder Chopra, Larry Lines, Doug Schmitt, and Mike Batzle give particular emphasis to geophysical characterization of heavy-oil fields. Chopra said that, given the economic importance and need for detailed information about heavy-oil production, this book should prove interesting to all reservoir engineers, geologists, and geophysicists in this field. This book will sell for the member price of $99 at the Annual Meeting. Geophysics is commemorating its 75th year of publication by offering a new book, Geophysics Today: A Survey of the Field as the Journal Celebrates its 75th Anniversary, for the member price of $59 in Denver. The book contains a collection of papers written by well-recognized experts in a full spectrum of applied geophysics. Seventeen of the papers in this book were invited and are published in the September-October special section of Geophysics. Former SEG Editor Sven Treitel said that Geophysics Today complements this special section with an additional group of papers drawn from Geophysics during the recent past, which address areas that the invited articles do not. The result is a snapshot of the state of the art in our field as Geophysics passes its three-quarters-century mark. These titles are available to order through the online Book Mart and also will be available in SEG eBooks.
New titles coming soon In Geophysical Characterization of Gas Hydrates, editors Michael Riedel, Eleanor C. Willoughby, and Chopra bring together papers focusing on geophysical studies of this unconventional energy source. Chopra said that there are three primary reasons for expanded studies of natural gas hydrates: (1) Gas from hydrate may be a new clean energy source; (2) natural-gas hydrate may play a role in climate change; (3) gas hydrate is a hazard in conventional hydrocarbon exploration from shallow gas release and from seafloor instability, especially in areas where hydrate is stable. This book should be available by 10 November 2010 to order through the online Book Mart. It will sell for $119/members and $149/list. Advances in Near-Surface Seismology and Ground-Penetrating Radar, edited by Richard D. Miller, John D. Bradford, and Klaus Holliger, features technologies in which there has been rapid development in recent years. Both methods have benefited from new processing tools, increased computer speeds, and an expanded variety of applications. This four-section book captures the most significant and cutting edge of the active areas of research, unveiling truly pertinent studies that address fundamental applied problems. This collection has papers written by renowned and respected authors in the related fields from around the world. This book should be available by 30 November 2010 to order through the online Book Mart. Its price is to be determined. | | |
