Real-time aeromagnetic compensation
14 July 2008—RMSInstruments added to its family the new Data Acquisition & Adaptive Aeromagnetic Real-Time Compensation (DAARC500) system, which provides real-time compensation for onboard mounted magnetometer systems on aircraft and helicopters

The magnetometer interface uses analog and digital electronics for up to eight magnetometer sensors. In order to monitor an aircraft’s position and motion in regards to the surrounding magnetic field, the DAARC500 uses a three-axis fluxgate magnetometer.

ERDAS offers geospatial tools to facilitate response during 2008 Atlantic hurricane season
16 July 2008—ERDAS is offering ERDAS TITAN to emergency management agencies at no cost.

TITAN is a tool for publishing, indexing, searching, and retrieving geospatial information across entities and end users. TITAN GeoHubs enable organizations to share imagery and vector data to develop a real-time common operating picture by allowing emergency management planners and responders to publish and consume geospatial data in a permission-based, collaborative online network. Deployed ahead of an emergency, state agencies, fusion centers, emergency operations centers, and other groups can use TITAN to disseminate information required for collaborating and preparing complex plans. During an actual event, TITAN provides access to data essential to situational awareness and management of emergency response efforts.

SCAN Geophysical commences seismic program for Petrobras offshore Portugal
24 July 2008—SCAN Geophysical has begun acquisition of more than 8500 km of 2D data offshore Portugal for Petrobras International Braspetro B. V. - Portugal Branch, on behalf of a consortium formed with Galp and Partex.

SCAN's 2D seismic vessel, M/V Geo Searcher, is acquiring the program, which began on schedule. The vessel is utilizing a 10 000-meter MSX solid (gel-filled) streamer system and a 4200 cubic inch source array designed for low-frequency output.

Ikon Science sponsors new professorial chair in CO2 capture and storage
28 July 2008—Ikon Science has entered into a three-way partnership with Durham University’s Centre for Research into Earth Energy Systems (CeREES) and DONG Energy to sponsor the position of Professor of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and Energy.

Ikon Science will contribute subsurface predictive modeling and develop new technologies for monitoring and modeling the injection and storage behaviors of CO2 into the earth. DONG Energy will lend its experience in producing and distributing energy. Scientists and researchers at Durham University will investigate new scientific approaches and methods to the modeling of CO2 emissions.
