Sercel acquires Metrolog: Acquisition expands downhole technology and Expertise
27 May—CGGVeritas announced that its manufacturing subsidiary Sercel has acquired Metrolog, a privately held company. Headquartered in Toulouse, France and established in 1987, Metrolog is a leading provider of high pressure, high temperature gauges, and other downhole instruments to the oil and gas industry.

Schlumberger introduces a novel petrophysics and productivity analysis service for carbonate reservoirs
27 May—Schlumberger announced the release of its new Carbonate Advisor (mark of Schlumberger) petrophysics and productivity analysis service.

Carbonate Advisor offers a systematic analytical framework to efficiently deliver a timely, comprehensive petrophysical evaluation of carbonate rocks. The system integrates information from magnetic resonance and elemental capture spectroscopy, as well as other logs and core data, to produce a single, complete formation evaluation of carbonate reservoirs.

In field tests in a wide variety of carbonate reservoirs, relative permeability and water saturation measurements from Carbonate Advisor matched discrete core analysis data. These continuous measurements permitted a more accurate prediction of fluid flow leading to better production performance.

The Carbonate Advisor service can be applied easily and with equal effectiveness either packaged with newly acquired data or to suites of previously acquired data. It maximizes the value of all the log measurements taken by using them together to solve a complex problem.

TGS acquires center line data corporation assets
2 June—TGS-NOPEC Geophysical Company (TGS) announced today that it has acquired substantially all of the assets of Center Line Data Corporation, a privately held Denver-based provider of well log digitizing software and services. The 36 staff members of Center Line will become employees of TGS' Geological Products and Services division and will allow TGS to open a regional office in Denver.

The purchase price included approximately US$5 million in cash and 30 600 shares of TGS. No new shares were issued related to this transaction.

Since the 3rd quarter of 2007, TGS has secured commitments from E&P companies for over one million LAS well log files throughout many onshore US basins. These LAS files will be added to TGS Geological's extensive data library. LAS (Log Ascii Standard) well logs are fully digitized well logs that are used in a variety of geological, geophysical and petrophysical applications and typically have a commercial value of approximately ten times the value of the standard well log images.

The TGS well log database presently contains more than five million well log images from key exploration areas worldwide. All of this data is available to clients via the Company's LOG-LINE Plus! database which features online access, search tools and immediate download capabilities.

Contract Award to Conduct a Strategic Environmental Assessment for Oil and Gas Activities Offshore the Republic of Cyprus
29 May—CSA International, Inc., (CSA) a leader in Marine Environmental Sciences and Services as part of interdisciplinary consortium, announces the award of a contract from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism (Ministry) of the Republic of Cyprus. The contract is for the conduct of a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) concerning hydrocarbon activities within the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the Republic of Cyprus. The contract was awarded to a Consortium comprising

  • CSA International, Inc. (CSA) of Stuart, Florida
  • Maritime Communications Services, Inc. (MCS) of Melbourne, Florida and
  • Aeoliki Ltd. (Aeoliki) of Nicosia, Cyprus

An SEA is the legal procedure, as required by European Union (EU) Directive 2001/42/EC, for establishing regional baseline conditions and assessing environmental effects associated with proposed actions (i.e., hydrocarbon activities). The purpose of the SEA is to identify and evaluate potential environmental and socioeconomic consequences of hydrocarbon activities in the EEZ offshore the Republic of Cyprus as shown in the Figure below.
