Ikon Science releases 64 bit RokDoc plug-in for Petrel 2009
3 August 2009—Ikon Science announced the release of the 64-bit version of RokDoc 5.4 allowing users running Petrel 2009 on 64-bit Vista and XP platforms to enjoy the direct real time-link between the RokDoc QI system and Petrel seismic-to-simulation software.

The plug-in has been written to take full advantage of the Ocean framework and provides seismic interpreters with the predictive power of rock physics through calibrated inversion and modelling to reservoir modelling workflows.

Paradigm Extends Investment in InnoCentive-Based Research Fault net challenge to incentivize breakthrough innovation
11 August 2009—Paradigm announced that it has posted a third Challenge to the InnoCentive open innovation marketplace. By investing in open innovation, Paradigm hopes to utilize the unique talents of scientists and professionals outside the industry in order to develop progressive solutions to E&P challenges.

Paradigm is currently offering the InnoCentive Solver community up to US $100 000.00 in cash incentives to develop an advanced digital representation of a three-dimensional subsurface fault network. The desired solution would enable geoscientists to efficiently manipulate and perform advanced geometrical and topological queries of potentially large amounts of fault data, interpreted from seismic images. The optimum digital representation would enable geoscientists to better understand the deformation of the Earth’s subsurface and the migration and entrapment of economic hydrocarbons.

Paradigm signed a contract with InnoCentive in October 2008 to augment internal technology development and accelerate innovation delivery to the industry. The agreement connects Paradigm science and technology experts with InnoCentive’s global network of “solvers,” a community of more than 180,000 engineers, scientists, inventors, business people, and research organizations.

EMGS awarded 3D EM survey offshore Greenland
3 August 2009—Electromagnetic Geoservices ASA (EMGS) has been awarded a contract worth about US $4 million by the Cairn Energy group through its subsidiary Capricorn and its joint venture partner Nunaoil, to perform a 3D electromagnetic (EM) survey in the Disko West area offshore Greenland.

The survey is due to start around 25 August and will be performed using the newly launched, purpose-built 3D EM vessel BOA Galatea. This vessel is currently completing a survey worth about US $1 million for a customer in Norway.
