It has been developed at the request of Ikon’s customers to simplify the task of tying wells and seismic data. The module is workflow-driven and incorporates cascaded workflows enabling users to immediately see the effects on the tie from changes in any part of the process including, wavelet estimation and stretch-and-squeeze log editing. Supercomputer launched at Kazakhstan-British Technical University 17 March 2010 - A topping-out ceremony of a 10 TFlops supercomputer cluster based on the IBM BladeCenter platform and Paradigm digital subsurface technology has been held at Kazakhstan-British Technical University (KBTU). A pilot HPC Grid area was deployed at the university in September, and remote testing was performed by the IBM/Intel Moscow Center of Infrastructure Solutions. The supercomputer is expected to be among 15 most productive systems in TOP-50 CIS supercomputers. The cluster has been switched into commercial operation mode. The supercomputer forms a backbone of the University proprietary high-performance network of distributed computing - HPC Grid that enables KBTU to cooperate with the world leading universities and scientific institutions as well as to take part in the projects being implemented within the framework of Enabling Grids for E-SciencE (EGEE) program. Solutions development for oil and gas sector is one of the key leads of University activities. To implement the supercomputer potential, KBTU commenced cooperation with Paradigm, a leading provider of enterprise software solutions to the global oil and gas industry. Paradigm will provide KBTU with a multifaceted interpretation suite and consulting services, along with the offer of future collaboration. ASB acquisition gives Spectrum Australia's largest MC 2D seismic library 19 March 2010 - Spectrum has entered into an agreement to purchase Australian Seismic Brokers, increasing Spectrum's modern 2D data library in the Far East by over 150,000 km. In addition ASB has one of the region's largest and most extensive well log data libraries and a substantial analog library. Following the acquisition, Spectrum's combined global 2D library will comprise over 400,000 km of seismic data. Spectrum is planning to invest a further US $17–20 million in new multiclient surveys during 2010 and add about 70–80,000 km of 2D data to the library. Targeted reprocessing of the existing library both of Spectrum and the newly acquired data of ASB is a key element of Spectrum's strategy and will considerably enhance the value of the enlarged library. CGGVeritas vessel wins industry HSE Award 23 March 2010 - The Bergen Surveyor, has won the annual HSE Award given by the TGS-NOPEC geophysical company (TGS) for 2009. The award is given for the best HSE performance of all the vessels used by TGS during each year. The annual HSE award was launched to raise HSE awareness and encourage and promote the importance of a strong safety culture on survey vessels. The CGGVeritas vessel Bergen Surveyor has received the 2009 Award in recognition of its strong HSE performance while conducting surveys in the North Sea, Greenland, and West Africa. For the North Sea survey, the vessel acquired data from April to July with very little technical or operational downtime despite working in waters with shipping traffic, fishing vessels, oil field operations, and other seismic crews. Offshore Greenland, the Bergen Surveyor exceeded the original client program by acquiring 46% more data than originally planned and sailing as far north as 74 where the CGGVeritas seismic crew faced the additional risk of floating ice. When the vessel was finally forced to withdraw in late October due to the formation of ice, it sailed across to West Africa where it is currently achieving high production. Geosoft 2010 software release now available 24 March 24 2010 - Geosoft announced the availability of a 2010 software release that includes a number of important advancements that improve access to data and information, make mapping and reporting tasks more efficient, and expand 3D subsurface capabilities. New capabilities in the 2010 release support generalists and specialists working across all disciplines - geology, geophysics and geochemistry. Data support has been added for ODBC, JPEG 2000 and GOCAD voxet data files. ODBC support now includes a new filtering capability, for accessing drill hole databases or surface data without the requirement for SQL query knowledge. |
