VISTA 9.0 release scheduled for July 2009
1 July 2009—GEDCO announced the imminent release of VISTA® 9.0, the latest version of its 2D/3D seismic data processing software.

VISTA 9.0 will build on its user-friendly interface as well as handling to deliver expanded work efficiencies and project capabilities for field seismic acquisition quality control and the complete processing of land, marine, transition zone, and VSP seismic data.

Among the new enhancements in VISTA 9.0 are:

  • new interactive scaled plot montage window
  • expanded commands for noise removal and signal enhancement
  • enhanced seismic display window for better field QC
  • automatic velocity picking and velocity field creation

TGS acquires data offshore Greenland for the 10th consecutive year
7 July 2009—Ikon Science announces the release of RokDoc 5.4, its quantitative interpretation software system. RokDoc enables interpreters, geologists, geophysicists, and petrophysicists to utilize rock physics models to integrate geology, well, and seismic data.

TGS announces 3D multiclient survey in the Barents Sea
7 July 2009—This season marks the 10th consecutive year of new data acquisition by TGS in Greenland. As in past years, the acquisition campaign in 2009 will consist of seismic, aeromagnetic, and gravity data.

The first phase of data acquisition has commenced and will result in more than 41,000 km of aeromagnetic and gravity data being collected in the Ungava, Labrador region. This data will be processed by TGS and available to participating companies late in 2009.

TGS will commence the acquisition of 9600 km of 2D seismic data off the west coast of Greenland in the Baffin Bay. This new survey will infill previous TGS 2D programs to provide a continuous regional grid of data in the area. This seismic program has been designed to assist in the evaluation of the Baffin Bay area prior to a bid round recently announced by the Greenland authorities close in the spring of 2010.

The TGS 2009 Greenland campaign is supported by industry prefunding.

CGGVeritas records first data on the shale gas Tri-Parish 3D multiclient survey in Haynesville
7 July 2009—CGGVeritas announced that it has begun acquiring the Tri-Parish Line 3D multiclient survey in northern Louisiana.

The 677-mi2 wide-azimuth survey is the largest contiguous Haynesville shale survey to date. It is designed to supply the numerous industry players with a state-of-the-art 3D survey to help them locate the hundreds of horizontal wells that are expected to be drilled in the play.

CGGVeritas will operate two separate 7000-channel crews to acquire the survey over the next 12 months. The configuration of the wide-azimuth survey was specifically designed to enable enhanced fracture detection and understanding, critical parameters for exploration and production.

Original participants will systematically receive processed seismic volumes as each phase of the year-long survey is completed.
